Transcending Boundaries: The Social and Cultural Sustainability of Sindhi Communities in Post-Partition India

Migration following the Partition was one of the largest population exchanges in history. It not only shaped the demographic landscape but also influenced socio-political and cultural identities. Refugees from Pakistan, labelled as "migrants," settled in different regions and faced challenges assimilating into their host communities. The research aims to highlight the significant role of migration in shaping societies, focusing specifically on the post-Partition identity crisis among the Sindhi migrants. The study purposes to explore the social dynamics between Sindhi migrants and local populations following the 1947 Partition of India, which led to massive displacement of people. The research aimed to investigate the identity crisis faced by Sindhi migrants and the perception of local populations regarding their own superiority over these migrants. The study likely will uncover tensions between the local population and Sindhi migrants, rooted in differences in language, culture, and socio-economic status. It will examine how these dynamics influence notions of citizenship, belonging and identity within a multiethnic and multilingual framework. This research will shed light on the long-term implications of migration on societal integration and the challenges of building cohesive identities in diverse populations. The study will help in contributing to discussions on Sindhi migration, assimilation processes and social equity in post-colonial settings.
