The Effects of Non-Competitive Book Discussions on Middle School Students' Reading Attitudes and Empathy

This study aims to verify whether non-competitive reading discussion has a statistically significant effect on middle school students' reading attitudes and empathy. The research period is from September 2023 to January 2024.The experimental group was administered non-competitive reading discussion once a week for 60 minutes per period for 12 periods using after-school time, and the control group was administered general reading discussion. The data were analyzed using quantitative analysis, which processes the collected data using statistical methods, and qualitative analysis to supplement the limitations of statistical analysis. The results of the study analyzing the effects of non-competitive reading discussion on middle school students' reading attitudes and empathy are as follows.First, this study is significant in verifying the effectiveness of non-competitive reading discussions on middle school students' reading attitudes and empathy.Second, this study is significant because it applied the non-competitive reading discussion model to the school site and analyzed and verified its effectiveness. In future follow-up studies that revise and supplement this study, we hope to expand and apply the research subjects and period and verify its effectiveness so that continuous non-competitive reading discussions can occur in educational settings and school classes.
