An Experimental Investigation on Geopolymer Bricks Using Quarry Dust as Fine Aggregate

Environmental pollution in the construction industry is mostly caused by the manufacture of Portland cement, which releases pollutants like CO2. In this study, geopolymer bricks constructed with fly ash, GGBS, and quarry dust as fine aggregates have undergone experimental work. An activator used in the mixture of sodium hydroxide (NaOH) and sodium silicate (Na2SiO3) is also used. For each combination, the molarity of sodium hydroxide was kept constant at 1M, while the ratios of sodium silicate to sodium hydroxide solution varied between 0.25, 0.5, and 1. Brick samples of 230 mm by 110 mm by 70 mm are collected. Tests on the test specimens were performed on the brick qualities, including efflorescence, water absorption, and compressive strength.
