Integrative Insights into Addiction Physiology: Understanding the Brain’s Role Through Neurobiology and Ayurveda"
This review explores the complex physiology of addiction, integrating insights from modern neuroscience and traditional Ayurvedic medicine.Modern science identifies addiction as a chronic brain disease with specific neurochemical and structural alterations, including the roles of dopamine, glutamate, and stress pathways.Conversely, Ayurveda interprets addiction as a disruption in the body-mind-spirit continuum, rooted in imbalances of the three doshas and depletion of vital energies like Ojas and Prana.By examining both perspectives, this article aims to provide a comprehensive framework for understanding addiction and proposes integrative approaches for prevention, management, and holistic recovery.
