Development of a Non-Destructive Contact-Type Plant Growth Monitoring Sensor for Vegetation in LID Facilities

This study develops a non-destructive, contact-type flow monitoring sensor that uses capacitance measurement techniques to measure sap flow within plant stems non-destructively. Designed for remote, real-time data collection, the sensor effectively observes vegetation growth in low impact development (LID) facilities. Experimental results show that the sensor is suitable for assessing plant growth and stable establishment in these facilities. The sensor is expected to be cost-effective and highly applicable for monitoring vegetation growth and environmental stress factors in widely distributed LID facilities.

Abstract

This study develops a non-destructive, contact-type flow monitoring sensor that uses capacitance measurement techniques to measure sap flow within plant stems non-destructively. Designed for remote, real-time data collection, the sensor effectively observes vegetation growth in low impact development (LID) facilities. Experimental results show that the sensor is suitable for assessing plant growth and stable establishment in these facilities. The sensor is expected to be cost-effective and highly applicable for monitoring vegetation growth and environmental stress factors in widely distributed LID facilities.
