The People’s Commissariat of Justice and the development of Soviet legislation: from the revolutionary struggle to legality
The role of the People's Commissariat of Justice (NKYu) of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic (RSFSR) in the development of early Soviet legislation has drawn the attention of researchers previously but remains underexplored. Therefore, it is crucial to analyze codification work led by NKYu as part of the 1922 reform and afterwards, study the specific features of those efforts, clarify the positions of legal scholars who drafted the first Soviet codes, examine the challenges they encountered, as well as the different perspectives on the new legislation at the time.
