A Brief Overview on the Ruby Lasers

Abstract: A solid-state laser that uses a synthetic ruby crystal as its gain medium is called a ruby-laser. Theodore H. Ted Maiman created the first ruby laser at Hughes Research Laboratories in 1960. It emits red visible light pulses with a wavelength of 694.3 nm. Synthetic ruby, the active laser medium, is powered by optical pumping using a xenon flashtube.[22]
