The poetry of Kh.-M. Dzuttsati in Russian translations by B. Sh. Okudzhava: The problem of representing form and content
The research aims to determine the primary translation method employed by the renowned Russian poet B. Okudzhava in translating the poetic works of Kh.-M. Dzuttsati. The scientific novelty lies in the fact that, for the first time, the possibilities of reflecting the components of a poetic work (ideas, images, composition, etc.) are demonstrated using the material of Russian-language translations of Kh.-M. Dzuttsati. The results obtained revealed the translator’s application of various translation transformations, the main ones being lexical and syntactic transformations of the source text, a synthesis of free and adequate approaches. In the translation of individual poems, the dominance of the translator’s own perception of artistic reality and the portrayal of his own poetic world are noted. The structure presented in the Russian-language versions also differs from some of the original poems. Poems lacking rhyme in the original are intertwined with consonance in the endings of lines in the translation, which generally gives them additional melodiousness. On the other hand, the combination of traditional verse (rhyme, rhythm, stanzaic division) with free verse, observed in the works of Kh.-M. Dzuttsati, is also characteristic of the translations. Broken rhythm and fragmented lines frequently used by the author find their adequate graphic reflection in B. Okudzhava’s work.
