Transportation plays a vital role in the modern world. In fact, India possesses the fourth-largest railway network in the world. The present essay discusses methods to detect fractures in railway tracks. In the past, the methods applied GSM hardware along with GPS modules. Those systems were very costly.Whereas, the efficient railway fracture detection system, proposed in the paper uses a radio frequency transmitting and receiving device, an LED-LDR setup, etc. Thus, it becomes cost-effective as compared to the other proposed system. This system makes use of the LED-LDR combination to detect rail track fractures. The system further makes use of RF technology for data transmission with greater speed over long distances.Sensor data is transmitted to a management center or surveillance system.Furthermore, the system consists of an LED-LDR circuit, RF transceiver, and an independent power unit that is solar battery powered with IoT integrated for crack detection. This approach offers a more affordable and efficient solution for monitoring rail track integrity.
