Synthesis and characterisation of hydroxyapatite from pig pone using hydrothermal method
In this study, hydroxyapatite (HA) was synthesised using the hydrothermal method at a molar ratio of Ca/P=1.67,pH 10, at 150 o C for 12 hours with the feedstock from the pig bone. The characteristic properties of pig bone and HA products were evaluated via many advanced analysis methods, such as X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), Brunauer-Emmett-Teller (BET) and X-ray fluorescence (XRF) methods.Besides, the precursor-rich calcium and phosphorus could be recovered from pig bone and dissolved using a 0.3125 M HNO 3 solution within 30 minutes and 87.9% of big bone was fully dissolved. The interesting point in this study was to generate HA with a crystallinity of 89.23%, an average crystal size of 13.98 nm, no appearance of other phases in products, and without ageing. Moreover, the crystallinity and average crystal size of HA synthesising from bones without calcination were 76.88% and 8.49 nm, respectively.
