Life Lines of Academician Ipatiev

V. Ipatiev rose from lieutenant to general, doctor of chemistry, privy councilor and «head of the chemical industry» of Russia. He was the first to develop heterogeneous catalysis processes and created a setup for studying chemical reactions at high temperatures and pressures. The high-octane fuel he created for aircraft gave the country an advantage in the air battles of World War II.
