An integrated framework for risk assessment in digital verification and validation
Risk assessments (RAs) encapsulate the potential risk events associated with a process whilst giving indication to their severity, likelihood, and influence. In the context of Digital Verification and Validation, RAs can be coupled with credibility assessments using NASA's Standard for Models and Simulations (M&S) to increase trustworthiness associated with digital simulations for an informed and profit focussed decision-making processes. RAs currently require high human involvement, so this work aims to propose a generalised RA logical data model based on the NASA standard to automate the RA process through consideration of the main concepts associated with risk. The tabular form of the data model reflects various groupings of attributes, with particular attention given to the multiplicity of their associations to ensure generalisability. This output marks a major development towards full RA process automation and a substantial stride in the M&S field which future endeavours can be benchmarked against.
