Virtual experiment of temperature rise test in high-voltage switchgear

This paper presents a procedure to perform a virtual test with uncertainty calculation for the temperature rise test on simple configurations of conductor bars as an alternative to a standardized experimental test. This work presents the method on two configurations, a copper bar with holes, and two aluminium bars of same cross section in contact. The results are calculated by a Monte Carlo simulation with the finite element method. These numerical methods are required to consider all constraints imposed by the standard and the device to be tested. The simulation results are verified with experimental measurement data and show no meaningful difference, presenting a potential virtualization of the temperature rise standard test.
