A study on the development of minimum standards of achievement for the 2022 curriculum to guarantee basic academic ability in English

This study explored minimum standards of achievement for each school level prior to the introduction of the 2022 English curriculum in the 2025 school year. This study analyzed the content elements in common across the 2009, 2015, and 2022 curriculum, and based on this analysis, developed minimum achievement standards for each school level. 5 experts for elementary, middle, and high schools conducted a series of expert group interviews over 4 months, with a total of 4 sessions. As a result, for elementary schools, five key elements were extracted: alphabet, stress·rhythm·intonation, sounds & spelling, words·phrases·sentences, main idea, and detailed content. For middle school and high school, also five key elements were extracted: words·phrases·sentences, main idea, detailed content, logical relationships, and emotions. This study is significant in its attempt to extract persistent content by comparing and analyzing the elements of previous curriculum, and to ensure the validity of the minimum achievement standards by contrasting them with similar evaluations or concepts.
