Features of the Emotional and Personal Sphere in Adolescent Girls with Menstrual Disorders

Menstrual irregularities are the main reason for seeking advice from gynecologists all over the world. Menstruation-related problems affect 75% of teenage girls. The presence of a somatic disease has a significant impact on the personality and emotional sphere, and in cases where the disease occurs in an already difficult adolescence, there are serious threats of psychopathological disorders and disorders of personal development. The etiology of menstrual disorders can be psychogenic or hormonal. The identification of the correct etiology makes it possible to select adequate therapies. The main pathogenetic axis of pathology is formed by the circular relationship of mental and somatic factors. An analysis of the literature data allows us to conclude that such patients have increased anxiety, interpersonal sensitivity, mood instability, as well as symptoms of depression and distortion in the structure of identity. A multidisciplinary approach should include a collaborative process between gynecologists, clinical psychologists and psychiatrists, from the moment of diagnosis and throughout treatment.
