Digital Transformation in Higher Education: A Bibliometric Analysis
Digital transformation (DT) has become a key initiative for organizations, improving resilience and efficiency. The higher education (HE) sector has notably benefited from these advancements. Understanding the current research on digital transformation in higher education (DTHE) is essential for tracking its development as a research field. This study uses bibliometric analysis, drawing on documents from the Scopus database, to review peer-reviewed journals on DTHE published between 2015 and 2023. The analysis focuses on key bibliometric indicators, including authorship, publications, and citations, while also visualizing research trends, co-authorship networks, keyword occurrences, and influential researchers in DTHE. Findings reveal a gradual increase in DTHE publications, with the most prolific authors producing seven articles. Spain, Germany, the United States, and Russia are leading contributors, with Spain, Germany, Norway, and Indonesia showing strong collaborative research efforts. The field has accumulated 2,915 citations, while the most influential institution published only eight articles. This study offers a detailed overview of DTHE research and suggests future directions for both researchers and practitioners in the field.
