2-16 GHz Phase Shifter With Continuous 435° Phase-Control in 130 nm CMOS

A single-ended 2-16 GHz vector-sum phase shifter has been implemented to realize a continuously tunable phase shift with single-ended I- and Q-signals and only one control voltage, using our proposed phase-reversible variable gain amplifier (VGA) and sine/cosine DC-control generator. The phase shifter is fabricated in a standard 130 nm CMOS process, and exhibits a measured 3-dB bandwidth of 2-16 GHz. The insertion loss ranges from 2 to 5 dB for all states. The root-mean-square (RMS) amplitude and phase error are less than 1.05 dB and 6.3° respectively, over measured bandwidth. Operating at 1.5 V, the entire circuit consumes 25.4 mW.
