UWB Radar Self-Motion Cancelation for Through-Wall Vital Sign Detection

Through-wall vital sign detection using radar is feasible for search and rescue missions in post-disaster areas. However, the weakness of vital signs makes them easily obscured by noise and clutter. Moreover, even slight random movements of the radar platform can significantly degrade detection accuracy. To mitigate this issue, this paper introduces a technique for detecting and extracting through-wall vital signs in the case of non-stationary radar via sequential image processing. The proposed method targets the detection of life signs using radar mounted on a hovering drone experiencing vertical drift. To replicate this setup, the radar is moved randomly back and forth in front of the barrier/wall and artificial vital sign. The results underscore the efficacy of the proposed method in detecting human respiratory signals.
