Modeling of Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor for Electric Vehicle in COMSOL Multiphysics
Nowadays, car manufacturers annually increase the production of electric vehicles and hybrid cars with electric motors in their design. This is due to the policy focus of large countries on combating environmental and energy problems. In most cases, the electric motor installed in an electric car is synchronous and uses rare earth permanent magnets such as neodymium to create a magnetic field. However, recently, due to the aggravation of the geopolitical situation in the world, the prices of rare earth elements have jumped sharply, and restrictions have been imposed on their export. These trends are likely to continue in the future, as the use of electric vehicles and wind turbines becomes more widespread. Therefore, it is necessary to develop motors that use ferrite permanent magnets, which are cheaper and have a more stable supply. This article discusses the design of a motor rotor with ferrite magnets for use in cars. The residual magnetic flux density in ferrite magnets is lower than in rare earth magnets, which is why it is necessary to compensate for the loss of magnetic moment. In this study, an electric motor with radially arranged ferrite magnets was used.
