Live Demonstration: A Study on Monitoring Canine Emotional Changes through Heart Rate Variability
This live demonstration presents an Artificial Intelligence Internet of Things (AIoT) wearable electrocardiogram (ECG) monitoring system with a belt for interpreting canine emotional changes through ECG signal analysis. The proposed ECG monitoring system can be divided into three parts: 1) ECG device with clips. 2) iOS-based application (APP) for the emotional display of Pet. 3) Web-based cloud platform for healthcare. The wearable ECG device with clips, developed by our team, includes an analog front-end circuit module (AFE) to sense the ECG raw signal and a microcontroller unit paired with a Bluetooth module (MCU+BLE) to send the recorded data to the iOS smart device. According to the self-designed iOS application, it can display ECG signals in real time and instantly identify canine emotional responses through heart-rate variation (HRV) and the related functions (LHR, SDNN, RMSSD). The web-based cloud platform includes Google Colab and Google Cloud Database. The server has an Application Programming Interface (API) to handle the business logic of HyperText Transfer Protocol (HTTP) requests from our developed iOS application. ECG signals are securely uploaded to the Google Cloud Database through the server. The cloud database stores ECG signals from each dog, forming a large database for AI algorithms to analyze canine emotional metrics. Finally, the dog’s emotions are divided into five levels to distinguish their emotional states, allowing owners to make appropriate adjustments and interactions.
