Recycling of Grain-v1 for Faster Communication

In this paper, we propose the design of a new cipher with high throughput using the existing structure of a popular cipher with low throughput. The throughput can be increased depending on the design specifications of the existing cipher. We have implemented our idea to design a primitive using the existing Grain-v1 and Chacha ciphers. Grain-v1 has a throughput of one bit, having hardware efficiency, while Chacha has software efficiency. Our cipher uses the efficiency of both ciphers. The throughput of our cipher can be extended to 1024 bits.

Abstract

In this paper, we propose the design of a new cipher with high throughput using the existing structure of a popular cipher with low throughput. The throughput can be increased depending on the design specifications of the existing cipher. We have implemented our idea to design a primitive using the existing Grain-v1 and Chacha ciphers. Grain-v1 has a throughput of one bit, having hardware efficiency, while Chacha has software efficiency. Our cipher uses the efficiency of both ciphers. The throughput of our cipher can be extended to 1024 bits.
