Categorization of splashes in shock tube-based underwater blast experiments

The study of surface effects of the underwater explosions has been conventionally done in water bodies. In the present work, a shock tube-based experimental setup has been used to perform underwater blasts. Blast locations at deep, medium and shallow depths have been experimented. The splashes have been categorized into three types of splashes based on their tendency to break as the blast location nears the water surface. When the blast location is deep, the splash does not break while rising and remains unbroken. As the blast location is raised, beyond a certain point, the splash starts to break partially while rising. On further raising the blast location close to water surface, a thin spout of extreme height, which is mostly broken, is observed.
