Metrological self-checking and self-diagnosing as a characteristic feature of automated production development in the Industry 4.0 era

In the era of Industry 4.0, an integrated approach to the development of automatic equipment that includes multiple measuring instruments is topical. The purpose of the development is to increase the performance and reliability of such equipment, taking into account the advantages of using metrological self-checking, self-diagnosing, and neural networks. The experience of biological evolution can contribute to achieving this aim. The effectiveness of development can be increased by drawing the analogy between solutions that improve the viability of animals and those that enhance the capabilities of technical systems, both functional and informational. The paper is illustrated by examples of improving the use of measurement information in the systems of a cold rolling mill for steel strip up to 500 mm wide and 1.25 mm thick. The prospects of work in this field are shown.
