Herpetofauna del campus El Cerrillo de la Universidad Autónoma del Estado de México

The El Cerrillo campus, Piedras Blancas, Toluca de Lerdo, State of Mexico, is part of Universidad Autónoma del Estado de México. This campus stands out as a space where academic, agricultural, and livestock activities converge. We documented the amphibian and reptile species present on the campus, recording 14 species in total, five of which are amphibians and nine reptiles. Nine of these species are listed under risk categories according to the NOM-059-SEMARNAT-2010. Additionally, all recorded species, except Spea multiplicate and Thamnophis eques, are endemic to Mexico, with one species being exclusive to the State of Mexico. Despite being in a disturbed area, El Cerrillo remains as an important refuge for local wildlife, highlighting its ecological and scientific value in the region.
