The sanatorium “Wiktor” in Żegiestów – historical, artistic and legal context
A characteristic feature of modernist architecture was, among others, functionalism, i.e. architecture adapted to the needs in terms of access to fresh air, daylight, but also to sanitary facilities. The aim of this article is to show that an outstanding work of modernism was also created in a small locality on the edge of the Second Republic of Poland on its borders and, interestingly, it was erected in a short time in the economic system as part of the cooperative activity of the employees of one of the companies. The text presents the history of the hotel - guesthouse “Wiktor” in Żegiestów (Poland), which was designed by Jan Bagieński (born in 1883, in Soroca - today, Republic of Moldova) and his assistant Zbigniew Wardzała. The building, put into use a few years before the Second World War, was ahead of its era, especially in the architecture of spas in Poland. The object was entered into the register of immovable monuments of the Lesser Poland Voivodeship in 2010.
