The Republican Stadium in Chisinau
The Chisinau Republican Stadium, located in two urban neighborhoods – the former Fânăria and Obor squares, was built in two stages: the first, taking place in 1950-1951 possessed an architecture corresponding to socialist realism, the second – built in 1955-1956, was an extension of the stadium, which, according to the 1955 Decree, reneged the previous style for the newly-built part. The stadium designed like a „sword in a sheath, was – not visible from outside. The monumental entrances faced the west and the east. The administrative pavilion was located in the axis of the football arena in the south. The buildings were decorated with symbols and, signs, indicating the various uses of the venues or referencing to European civilization. Since 1991, the stadium is no longer fit to be used for sports at European standards. Its demolition started in 2007, of which an empty field, the monumental entrances and the administrative pavilion are left. In July 18, 2018, a draft bill for passing the the territory of the Republican Stadium to the US Embassy in Moldova was approved.
