Ethnicity in the Graphic and Pictorial Creation by Visual Artist Aurel Guţu-Resteu
Aurel Guţu-Resteu, better known as Aurel Guţu (1942-2023), stands out among the leading artists of national graphics and painting. His training in the 1970s contributed to his becoming one of the outstanding artists who nurtured their talent at the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography in Moscow (VGIK), alongside such authors as Anna Evtuşenco, Leonid Domnin, Anatoli Smîşleaev, and others. Fluent mastery of color and artistic techniques defines him as an exceptional artist, a master of oil, watercolor, and gouache, skillfully applying linear plasticity on canvas or paper. In his graphic and pictorial creativity, he combines poetic chromatic illusions with the identification and plastic stylization of local ethnic motifs. He portrays the essence of human and animal characters in his art, as well as the intricate details of everyday objects, viewing them through a unique scenographic prism. The book graphics created by Aurel Guţu-Resteu offer the readers a journey filled with discoveries and intellectual enrichment, revealing subtle perspectives of extraordinary elegance and depth. His works delicately penetrate the soul, inviting the viewer to contemplate spiritual and eternal values. Ethnic ornaments are harmoniously incorporated into the graphic and pictorial works created by the artist.
