Implications of aesthetic and efferent reading for understanding social cognition in discourse analysis learning

This study aimed to investigate the implications of Aesthetic and Efferent Reading (AER) on Discourse Production Analysis (DPA) and Social Cognition Analysis (SCA) skills. This research was applied to students of the Indonesian Language and Literature Education Program who were taking discourse analysis courses. The study used a control group design. In the experimental class instructional strategy armed with aesthetic and efferent reading, the result was then analysed by several quantitative analyses. The data analysis test stages include (1) a data normality test using the one-sample Kolmogorof-Smirnov technique; and (2) a comparison test with a t-test in the form of an Independent Sample t-test or Mann-Whitney U test. The research results indicate that (1) AER poses a significant effect on DPA. The implication obtained from this measurement is that text production is closely related to reading comprehension which is by the finding that the level of text comprehension is dependent on the situatedness and sensory richness of mental representation formed during reading; (2) AER poses a significant effect on SCA. The implication that can be explained is that text familiarity greatly determines the ability to find references to various social aspects in reading. .

This research was applied to students of the Indonesian Language and Literature Education Program who were taking discourse analysis courses. The study used a control group design. The implication obtained from this measurement is that text production is closely related to reading comprehension which is by the finding that the level of text comprehension is dependent on the situatedness and sensory richness of mental representation formed during reading; (2) AER poses a significant effect on SCA. The implication that can be explained is that text familiarity greatly determines the ability to find references to various social aspects in reading. .
