Functional Electrical Stimulation Combined with Pharmacotherapy for Neurorehabilitation in Patients with Cerebral Ischemia and Pain

Functional electrical stimulation (FES) is a promising method of management that allows restoring motor functions in patients with various neurological diseases. In recent years, FES is widely used in clinical practice due to its effectiveness and safety, as evidenced by the growing number of publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals (PubMed: functional electrical stimulation and clinical application; 1403 results over 10 years). The paper discusses the results of modern international studies indicating that FES can be recommended for use in the complex rehabilitation of patients with cerebral ischemic lesions and pain syndromes along with pharmacotherapy, improving the quality of life and functional outcomes
