Emerging Drug Resistance in Nematode Infections in India
Nematode infections, including soil-transmitted helminths (STH) and lymphatic filariasis, remain a public health challenge in India, particularly in tropical and subtropical regions. While mass drug administration (MDA) campaigns and deworming initiatives have substantially reduced disease prevalence, the emergence of drug resistance in nematodes is a growing concern. This article investigates the current state of nematode drug resistance in India, its drivers, and its implications for public health.Through an integrative approach combining field studies, genetic analysis, and predictive modeling, this study provides insights into resistance mechanisms, treatment efficacy, and future risks. The findings underscore the urgent need for monitoring resistance, diversifying treatment options, and implementing integrated control strategies to sustain gains in nematode control programs.
