On the Question of the Gothic Trace in the Crimean Onomastics
This article shows erroneous or hypothetic nature of the Germanic etymology of the toponyms associated with the Gotho-Alan population of the south-western Crimea. The Gothic versions have no convincing justification. Their authors and those who followed them used erroneous analogies. The meanings of Germanic variants are not always motivated. Some of the cases under consideration based the ideas of Germanic origins of the toponyms on the formal resemblance with words in modern Germanic languages or incorrect reconstructions.
