The LEP gene (site A80V) in Kholmogorsky cows and the duration of their economic use

Increasing the life of cows with high productivity indicators can help increase the profitability of dairy production, increase the number of calves with desired characteristics, as well as reduce the frequency of cow abandonment from the main herd. In addition to external factors, genetic factors, including the leptin gene, influence the duration of the use of animals for economic purposes. This gene is synthesized by fat cells and is involved in the regulation of eating behavior, metabolism, and also affects the reproductive function and immune system of animals. Studies have revealed the effect of the A80V polymorphism of the third exon of the leptin gene on the duration of use of cattle for household purposes. Polymorphism at the LEP-A80V locus has a significant impact on the duration of the productive period and the economic efficiency of animal use. The results of the studies showed a higher frequency of occurrence of the AA and AV genotypes compared to the VV genotype on the A80V site. The purpose of this study was to determine the allelic diversity of the A80V locus of the LEP gene in cows of JSC "Kholmogorsky Stud Farm" that were dropped out for various reasons. To achieve this goal, a sample of retired cows (88 heads) was formed, which we had previously genotyped. As a result of statistical processing of the genotyping results, the dominance of the A-allele (91%) and AA-genotype (82.95%) in this sample of cows was revealed, V-allele (9%), AV-genotype (15.91%), VV-genotype (1.14%) were less common. It is also mathematically proven that cows with the AV genotype have a longer duration of economic use than cows with the AA genotype.
