Breeding resources of beef breeds of cattle in the zone of the Volga Federal District

The solution of the problem of high-quality beef production is directly related to the development of domestic beef cattle breeding. To realize the set goal it is necessary to emphasize the improvement of breeding base of beef cattle and the growth of competitive beef production. On the basis of the results of boning, the number of beef cattle and the main indicators of productivity for the period 2017-2023 in the regions of the Volga Federal District was analyzed. In the region there are 4 breeding plants and 28 breeding reproducers on breeding of cattle of Aberdeen Angus, Hereford, Kazakh white-headed, Kalmyk, Limousin breeds. The number of breeding animals of Hereford breed is increasing. For the last year the number of breeding stock in the Samara region increased almost six times, in the Saratov region more than twice, while in the Perm region the increase amounted to 42.6 %. Practice has shown that domestic breeds are competitive, so it is necessary to expand the scope of their further use.
