Content analysis of common figures of the technical training program in European sport dance program

In this article, the authors analyze the content of figures common to various dances within the swing group of the European sport dance program, considering permissible technical elements and actions. The tables include groups of identical figures and technical elements across different dances, as well as their structural analogs. The list of basic figures provided in the appendices of the Competition Rules of the International DanceSport Association (IDSA), the World DanceSport Federation (WDSF Syllabus), the Ukrainian DanceSport Association (UDSA), and the All-Ukrainian DanceSport Federation (AUDSF) includes both new and borrowed figures. The basic figures, developed over a long period, are described in parts, representing technical elements. The standard sequence of steps for such figures is presented as individual modules. Each of these modules is considered a new version of a classical figure with a unique name. This approach does not alter the traditional names or the content of the technical elements but enhances their diversity. Based on the results of systematic pedagogical monitoring and statistical analysis of the composition of competitive routines in sport dances, a scientific rationale was provided for classifying the technical elements of the swing group dances in the European program by their level of complexity. The largest number of common figures across multiple dances is found in Slow Waltz, Slow Foxtrot, and Quickstep. For 30-90% of the permissible basic elements in the swing group sport dances of the European program, a structural analog can be identified in at least one other dance.
