FEATURES OF ENGLISH TOURISM TERMS MACHINE TRANSLATION INTO UKRAINIAN

The article is a study of the English tourism terminology and the features of its translation into Ukrainian through the use of the translation systems DeepL Translate and Google Translate. Taking into account the constant changes in the development of the tourism sector, modern online platforms provide active communication and exchange of experience, promote various types of recreation as well as encourage the study of tourist texts, being an object of interest for linguists. On the basis of the English language tourist texts, the article explores lexical units denoting tourist concepts and realities, being classified according to their structure (simple, compound, abbreviations) and semantics (architectural objects, geographical objects, accommodation and food establishments, transport and infrastructure objects, recreation area and services, etc.). It has been found out that tourist texts are united by a common idea, but demonstrate a wide thematic diversity, including countries and cities; places to visit; step-by-step tips and practical instructions; trip planning, etc. The findings of the article point out that with the development of technologies, the use of machine translation is becoming more and more common, which allows adjusting to a new environment making translation into the desired language. The study analyses the functioning of two online systems, namely DeepL Translate and Google Translate and defines the main errors as well as accuracy of translation of the terms in context. The study proves that the DeepL Translate system translates tourist terms more accurately preserving the meaning more often (56%) as compared to the Google Translate system (44%). Minor differences allow both systems to be used for the translation of tourist texts, but the need for human editing is advisable to ensure the adequate translation that conveys the meaning intended by the author.
