IT TERMINOLOGY: TRANSLATION CHALLENGES AND PROSPECTS

The article is devoted to the problem of studying professional terminology in the field of information technology from the translation aspect. The article is theoretical in nature and is a prerequisite for conducting a comprehensive empirical study with a projection onto the terminological units of the IT sublanguage. Given the rapid development of technology, translators face a number of difficulties, including the difficulty in finding equivalents for new terminological units, the potential ambiguity of terms within the same terminology, the specifics of translating abbreviations and acronyms, taking into account the stylistic features of professional jargon, etc. The main purpose of the study is to identify and comprehensively analyse the key challenges in translating IT terminology into Ukrainian, as well as to propose ways to overcome them, taking into account linguistic, technical and cultural aspects. The publication outlines the range of problematic issues related to translation within the IT sublanguage and suggests possible ways to solve them. In this context, several examples of translation solutions selected from the English, German, and Ukrainian interfaces of OmegaT and LibreOffice were also presented. To overcome the challenges described in this paper, a comprehensive approach is needed. The need to standardise terminology through the creation of a terminology base containing translations, definitions, examples of use and other important information to improve the quality of technical translation is emphasised.
