Revisiting the Application of Robotic-Assisted Surgery in Urogynecology and Urology
The advancement of minimally invasive surgical techniques in urogynecology and urology have improved patient outcomes and reduced length of hospital stay. It is additionally important for the urologic surgeon to consider cost, efficiency, and ergonomics when choosing an optimal approach. There has been increasing use of robotic-assistance for commonly performed procedures, but is the robotic platform advantageous over the traditional laparoscopic approach? In this updated commentary and review, we aim to critically examine the merits and drawbacks of both robotic and laparoscopic surgery within the context of urogynecology and urology.
