Phytochemical investigation on some plants growing in Algerian Sahara

This study aimed to perform qualitative phytochemical analyses of secondary metabolites in the aerial parts of plants native to Algeria. Using coloration tests and precipitation with solvents of varying polarities (water, ethanol, and diethyl ether), the presence of key secondary metabolites, such as flavonoids, tannins, saponins, and terpenoids, was confirmed. These compounds are known for their significant pharmacological properties, including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antimicrobial activities. The medicinal properties of the studied plants—Chamaerops humilis (Arecaceae), Pseudocytisus integrifolius (Brassicaceae), Asteriscus graveolens (Asteraceae), Anabasis aretioides (Chenopodiaceae), and Launaea nudicaulis (Asteraceae)—are likely due to the presence of these bioactive secondary metabolites.
