Research on the Unique Role of a River and Ocean Port City in Economic Development: The Case of Shanghai
This study delves into the pivotal role Shanghai plays as both a river and ocean port city in driving economic development. By functioning as a dual port, Shanghai enhances regional and global trade efficiency, reduces logistical costs, and optimizes supply chain management. The research focuses on the strategic advantages of Shanghais location at the confluence of the Yangtze River and the East China Sea, exploring how this unique positioning bolsters regional economic integration and increases global trade competitiveness. The analysis highlights the critical role that Shanghais port infrastructure plays in both regional and global economies. However, it also identifies significant challenges, including issues related to regulatory compliance and economic dependency, which could hinder the citys long-term growth. To address these challenges, the study offers several recommendations aimed at strengthening Shanghais economic position and ensuring its continued success as a dual-role port city. Ultimately, the study underscores the importance of strategic planning and policy-making in fully leveraging the potential of dual-role port cities like Shanghai. By addressing existing challenges and capitalizing on its strategic advantages, Shanghai can continue to play a leading role in global trade and economic development.
