Cancerous Skin Cell Detection Sensor Based on Multiband Terahertz Metamaterial Absorber

The present study introduces a novel design and analysis of a sensor based on a metamaterial absorber (MMA) to identify cancerous skin cells. Computer Simulation Technology (CST) employs a finite integration (FIT) approach to simulate the suggested structure in the RF range of 4 THz to 7 THz. The crystal structure displays four distinct absorption peaks at resonance frequencies of 5.116 THz, 5.704 THz, 6.223 THz, and 6.646 THz, accompanied by absorption rates of 99.84%, 73.31%, 59.36%, and 99.77%, respectively. An investigation is performed on the absorption coefficients in different physical modes and the electric and magnetic field distribution patterns. The present study concludes by examining the sensor design and the identified mechanism. The maximum quality factor (QF), sensitivity (S), and figure of merit (FoM) of the sensor are measured to be 562.53, 3.9 THz/RIU, and 414 (1/RIU), respectively. Therefore, the sensor can be employed in biological applications such as identifying malignant skin cells.
