Accessibility and Inclusion: A Gesture-Based Human Interface Device for Individuals with Hand Impairments
This paper presents the development of a wearable gesture-based device designed to emulate mouse actions, thus enabling individuals with hand impairments to interact with and control a Windows PC. The device serves as an innovative solution to address the accessibility challenges faced by individuals who are unable to use conventional mice due to physical limitations. By leveraging the USB- HID specification, this technology establishes seamless communication between the wearable gesture device and the PC, enabling it to interact with a wide range of applications and services, including communication software and internet access for healthcare and food delivery. The study explores the integration of gesture recognition technology into the human-computer interaction paradigm, ultimately enhancing accessibility and empowering individuals with hand impairments to lead more independent and connected lives.
