Conceptual Design of a Static-Equivalent Device for Different Multi-Phase Flow Regime Preparation

Accurate measurement of multi-phase flow has been an important issue since the early 1980s. The complexity of this measurement can be reduced by using one of two approaches:separation or homogenization. However, proposing multi-phase flow meters without any preconditioning can offer significant advantages, such as not interfering with the transfer process and providing flexibility for all regimes. It is essential to provide a suitable platform with the ability to produce different regimes in order to check the performance of multi-phase flow meters. One interesting option could be to provide systems on a laboratory scale, avoiding the exorbitant costs of test loops. In this research, a Static-Equivalent Multi-Phase Flow (SEMPF) system with the flexibility to create gas-liquid multi-phase flow regimes is proposed. The innovative concept in this system involves generating different flow regimes by arranging full and empty straws inside a rotating tube. The mechanism of action of SEMPF was validatedfor a homogeneous three-phase flow using gamma-ray techniques in Monte Carlo simulations. The results showed remarkable measurement accuracy, highlighting the high quality of this system in creating the most challenging flow regime namely homogenous flow.
