Radiation Dose Calculation for Emergency Personnel during Radiological Accident in Tehran Research Reactor
In this study, radiation exposure of emergency personnel during the severe radiological accident at the Tehran Research Reactor was investigated. Projected dose is the sum of the effective dose from external exposure and the committed effective dose from inhaled radionuclides. This work focused on investigation the projected Total Effective Dose Equivalent (TEDE), acute dose estimates for vital organs, and Thyroid Committed Dose Equivalent (CDE) in the early phase of a radiological incident. Comparing the dose calculation results with protective action guides dose limits indicated emergency personnel's efforts to reduce radiation hazards. The Total Effective Dose Equivalent (TEDE) projected dose value up to 3 minutes of exposure duration time exceeded the protective action guides dose limit (1 rem), suggesting that sheltering-in-place or evacuation should be initiated. Additionally, the thyroid dose value up to 15 minutes of exposure time exceeded the protective action guide limit (5 rem), indicating that Iodine prophylaxis actions should be implemented.
