Mitigating Unbalance Due to EV Dispatch in a LV Distribution Grid Having Balanced Loads
The rapid rise of electric vehicles (EVs) in transportation is lessening carbon emissions and air pollution. Moreover, their integration with the electric power sector creates opportunities for grid operators such as improving voltage, reducing demand shortages, and addressing grid imbalance through vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology. V2G technology recommends that EV users dispatch their stored energy to the grid. This paper investigates the effect of uncoordinated dispatch of EVs despite balanced loads. Additionally, this paper will propose a new method to mitigate grid imbalance without requiring more energy support from EV users, a common practice. The proposed method re-sequences EVs among phases rather than reducing the discharging rate of EVs. This method has been implemented in a distribution grid, and the obtained results show that voltage imbalance reduces to below 2%. Additionally, the proposed method proves more effective than existing methods, benefiting both electric vehicle users and grid operators.
