Design of a Printed Planar Patch Antenna for Ultra-wideband Wireless Applications

This paper introduces a novel printed planar patch antenna design exhibiting remarkable performance for ultra-wideband (UWB) wireless communications. It offers a compact dimension of <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$10\times 16\times 1.575\text{mm}^{3}$</tex> structured on Rogers RT5880 (lossy) substrate material with partial ground that provides a wider band ranging from 3.6 GHz-14.6 GHz. The operating region shows an acceptable flat gain where the peak value of the gain and directivity is 3.28 dBi and 3.96 dBi at 13.75 GHz and 14.6 GHz respectively. It exhibits an average radiation efficiency of 68 % which is satisfactory. The planar configuration proposed in this study allows for a compact and versatile design making it suitable for PCB technology with various UWB wireless applications.
