Global Patterns of Innovation: Comparing Business Model Canvas Implementations in Fab Labs Around the World

This paper compares the implementation of the Business Model Canvas (BMC) across Fab Labs in the Netherlands, Indonesia, and the UK, focusing on their operational models and innovation practices within distinct cultural contexts. Through case studies of Waag Society’s FabLab (Netherlands), The House of Natural Fiber (HONF) FabLab (Indonesia), and Fab Lab Manchester (UK), the study highlights key differences in value propositions, customer segments, channels, customer relationships, revenue streams, key resources, key activities, key partners, and cost structures. These differences are largely influenced by cultural dimensions. The findings provide valuable insights for the global promotion and development of Fab Labs, offering reference points for policymakers, entrepreneurs, and educational institutions.
