Prospects of Applying Immersive Technologies in the Activities of Ukrainian Libraries

The aim of the article is to study prospects for the use of immersive technologies in the activities of Ukrainian libraries in the digital era. Research methods. A set of scientific cognition methods (objectivity, theory and practice interaction), methods of analysis and synthesis, generalisation, structural and functional method, cognitive method, method of information diagnostics (express analysis), multiple scopes of which contribute to the in-depth, structural study and analysis of the research object and subject, are used. The scientific novelty of the obtained results grounds on the actualisation of the problem of using immersive technologies, including augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR) and mixed reality (MR), as well as applying neural networks, in particular artificial intelligence models. Main conclusions. The challenges faced by Ukrainian libraries in recent years prove their ability to adapt to different conditions, particularly, to work effectively remotely and to provide the users’ informational, educational, socio-cultural and leisure needs to the fullest extent possible, reorienting the main activities of libraries in accordance with the modern society requirements. In such conditions, the cyberspace of immersive technologies should not be ignored by the library as a socio-cultural institution with a humanistic approach. The desire to adapt, improve and deepen the mission and significance of libraries by applying modern technological discoveries is scaled in creative insights, start-up projects and an archetype vision of the “Library 4.0”. XR, including VR, AR and MR will contribute not only to the image of the library (the variety of formats for responding to requests), but also to the interest in individuality and individual approaches to everyone, as well as to the efficiency and quality of information services through e-infrastructures, digitisation for the preservation of the state’s cultural heritage, etc.
