Design and Implementation of a Spark Pulse Power Control Device for Intrinsically Safe Circuits

This paper presents the study and design of a control device capable of adjusting and monitoring spark pulse power and pulse width time. This device aids in the experimental analysis of spark discharge ignition mechanisms and explores the relationship between the spark power, discharge time, and energy. The device comprises two stages. The first stage employed a forward converter as the main topology. By using a controller to set an adjustable reference voltage and incorporating current-mode feedback control, it achieves a wide range of adjustable output voltage, providing the necessary voltage and transmitting spark pulse power to the second stage. The second stage circuit includes a spark discharge control switch and proposes a timing control strategy for the spark switch to comply with the IEC standard spark test apparatus. The controller monitors the spark status of the second stage circuit in real-time and controls the on-off timing of the spark switch, enabling controllable and monitorable spark pulse width time. Experimental test results demonstrate that the device operates stably, achieving the intended controllability and monitorability of spark pulse width time, and meets the expected outcomes.
