A Sliding Variable Hysteresis Controller-Based Bipolar Leg Converter for the Hybridization of Solar and Wind Power Systems
Delivering electrical power to remote areas is challenging due to the difficulties in establishing electrical networks. A viable solution is the deployment of standalone systems that operate autonomously from the main electrical grid. Combining renewable energy sources is essential for developing sustainable energy solutions. This paper examines the strategy and employment of a sliding variable hysteresis controller (SVHC) integrated with a bipolar leg converter (BLC) for hybrid solar and wind power systems, specifically tailored for standalone applications. The proposed converter functions efficiently as an inverter, enabling seamless energy conversion and integration from both solar and wind sources. The sliding variable hysteresis controller improves system performance and stability by dynamically adjusting switching frequencies, reducing power losses, and enhancing overall efficiency. Furthermore, a perturb and observe (P&O) based maximum power point tracking (MPPT) algorithm is employed to optimize the photovoltaic (PV) system's performance, ensuring maximum power extraction. Simulations using a modified sinusoidal pulse width modulation (MSPWM) controller and a sliding variable hysteresis controller demonstrate the system's effectiveness in keeping a steady and consistent power supply while optimizing the utilization of renewable energy resources. This innovative approach presents a capable solution for improving the performance of hybrid renewable energy systems.
