RF Based Green Energy Harvesting Using an SRR Shaped Perfect Absorber for WiFi and GPS Applications

The proposed work involves designing and implementing a dual-band absorber operating at 1.6 GHz and 2.4 GHz for an RF energy harvesting device capable of charging commercially available thin-film or solid-state batteries. The energy harvesting amplifier circuit is designed using pHEMT FET technology at the 100 nm node in WIN, along with a Schottky-based rectifier circuit. The pHEMT rectifier circuit exhibits enhanced sensitivity up to 0 dBm, providing a DC output of 657 mV, while the Schottky diode-based rectifier yields a DC output of 960 mV at <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$4.7\,\mathrm{k}\Omega$</tex>. This article introduces a novel hybrid structure combining pHEMT and Schottky-based rectifiers, demonstrating improved sensitivity. Simulation results have been verified with hardware experiments, showing a good match.
